BOWSIAN
LABRADORS
We are a small kennel that have kept Labradors for 10 years and have been showing labs for 9 years, it all began with Holly which was a birthday present from my husband, I grew up with labs as a child which my father used to work, I was always keen to have one of my own when the time was right, Holly was so lovely to live with that David decided that he would like a black dog of his own so began the search for a suitable stud dog.
I have to admit that my choice was picked firstly on location but I was lucky in not only finding an excellent stud dog in Sheenaron Merry Gilbert but also a good friend and mentor in Ronwein Phillips who has helped and guided me into the over powering hobby of dog showing.
Now it's 9 years on and I have enjoyed so many days in the ring having won enough to keep me hooked and met so many lovely people and made lots of new friends. I took out my affix BOWSIAN five years ago the name is made up from my christian name and Bow who completely filled the order David had placed for a lovely black dog, I borrow him to start my showing and although he was a little ring shy to begin with he did well at both champ and open shows, he gained his bronze good citizen award at 15mnths and helped out our local GP with a young patient whose fear of dogs was effecting his life and that of his family after 3 months of working with Bow he was able to take him for a walk and has overcome his fear. He has now semi-retired and spents his time lazying around being the perfect dog.
I have bred a couple of litters over the last few years and produced some lovely quality pups. Bowsian Celtic Magic Wing (Duncan) became my first to qualify for Crufts in Oct 05 at Midland Counties it was such a thrill to set foot on the green cloth for the first time in March 06 and he's now qualified for the second time and will be at Crufts 07, he will be joined by his half sister Bowsian Celtic Indiana Babe (Indie) she also qualified at Midland Counties 2006 but went one better than her half brother and qualified for a second time 2 days later at West of Endland Lab Champ show.
We mated the two girls Oren and Liberty in 2006 and were lucky enough to have two lovely healthy litters of pups Orens daughter Bowsian Celtic Indiana Babe has now stayed with us and began her show career in September 2006. A couple of Liberty's pups are also being shown by their new owners and we wish them every sucess.
We have had our best year to date in 2007, firstly Indie took reserve place in a large puppy class at Crufts which was a brilliant feeling for us and in August Duncan has gained his stud book number and will now be able to attend Crufts each year without qualifing again this is our first dog to acheive this honour
They will both be there in March 2008 as Indie has also qualified again last summer.
When we plan a litter both dam and stud are hip scored and have current clear eye certificates , I also pick stud dogs that have been DNA tested and are Opitigen PRA clear normal, although health checks are very important to us when breeding temprament is always a priority as we aim to produce well balanced puppies who will fit into their new families well and provide many years of love and companionship, check out our latest news page for updates.
We very occasionally have older dogs looking for a pet home, we are very careful where we place them so if you are interested please dont be offended when we ask questions, it is important to us that they go to loving homes where they can become part of the family.
